Mr. O’Brien joined Love Funding in 2003 as a conventional underwriter, loan placer and Excel programmer. He is currently Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the company’s non-FHA loan origination and placement programs. Mr. O’Brien has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of real estate finance, development and property management.

He began his career with Chemical Bank in New York City, serving as a construction lender, member of the Bank’s regular loan committee and credit officer for a commercial lending group. As Executive Vice President of the service corporation of the second largest Savings and Loan in Florida, he successfully reduced its non-performing loan portfolio by more than 50 percent. In the late 1980s, Mr. O’Brien served as an independent consultant, developer and property manager in Tampa, FL.

By 1990, his consulting business consisted of managing five to twenty-person teams of real estate professionals retained by investment banks to evaluate nearly a third of the non-performing commercial assets, both loans and real estate owned, auctioned by the Resolution Trust Corporation in bulk sale transactions. As a result of this work, he became part of the original cadre of originators and underwriters in the Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities industry working at various positions for companies such as Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan Chase, Allied Capital, Anthracite and others.

Since joining Love Funding Mr. O’Brien has been instrumental in more than tripling the firm’s non-FHA loan origination business in just three years.
